abstract = "This paper presents the steps required to work with free MODIS
sensor products and free softwares such as SPRING, MRT, and
ConvGeotiff. It presents the information about how to select,
order, and receive the MODIS data. Then it describes how to handle
the MODIS data using the MODIS Reprojection Tool (MRT) to convert
the geographic projections, to mosaic the images and to convert
images from HDF to Tiff format. We use the DETER Project as the
example. So since DETER Project uses SPRING software, it is
necessary to convert the images from 16 bits to 8 bits format
using ConvGeotiff. The MODIS images processed with this approach
for the INPEs DETER Project are usefull for several
applications.",
